D&D London, formerly Conran restaurants, has announced the opening of its first two restaurants in Japan. The new Botanica and Iconic restaurants, which are both in Tokyo, have been developed in partnership with the Japanese restaurant group Hiramatsu. The company plans to open between eight and 10 restaurants in Japan over the next few years. Botanica, which opened at the end of March, is located on the 4th floor of the new Landmark Tokyo Midtown building and serves contemporary European food. The site will also feature the Noodle Workshop, which offers hot and cold noodle dishes, salads and pastries to eat in or take away. Iconic, which is set to open on 19 April, is situated on the 9th floor of a building in the Ginza district of the capital and includes a restaurant, Plaza Bar, a function room and private dining rooms. The restaurant also serves modern food from Europe with some British classics and the bar becomes a champagne bar at night offering a bistro menu. Des Gunewardena, chairman and chief executive of D&D, said: “These projects have been in development for a number of years and it is very exciting to see them come to fruition. “Working with Hiramatsu has enabled us to create restaurants which we think are sympathetic to the Japanese market while at the same time injecting something quite different into the Tokyo restaurant scene.”
