A family that has been targeted by animal rights protestors has allegedly been banned from their village pub by its owner, Wolverhampton & Dudley Breweries' Union Pub Company. However, the pub itself, the Red Lion in Newborough, Staffordshire, denies it has banned the family, and says: "We will be meeting with the brewery to find out what is going on." The Hall family who run Darley Oaks Farm in nearby Newchurch, have been targeted by animals rights protestors over their business of breeding guinea pigs which are sent away for medical research. The Save Newchurch Guinea Pigs group organises regular protests at the farm every weekend, and has now started hounding anyone who has connections with the Halls, such as local pubs, petrol stations, solicitors and vets, to try to get them to sever ties with the family. The group's website now carries a copy of an alleged letter from Leslie Porter of The Union Pub Company to the family, asking them not to use the pub any more because of "increased disturbance and threats relating to the Halls' use of the Red Lion". However, the Red Lion told a local newspaper: "We haven't barred them, it is the brewery which asked them not to come in, and we certainly have no problem with them." No one from the Union Pub Company could be contacted for comment.
