City Pub Co has secured its fourth site in Cambridge, MCA has learnt.

The group has completed on the freehold acquisition of the currently vacant Back Street Bistro on the corner of Sturton Street and Hooper Street.

It is the first time City Pub Co, which aims to build an estate in key hubs, has had four sites in a single area.

Rupert Clark, chief executive of City Pub Co East, told MCA the company would now submit a planning application for a significant refurbishment to transform the building back into its original use as a pub. He said he expected the venue to re-open later this year or early next under a new name.

He said: “It’s a different area of Cambridge for us and we’re really pleased to get a good site in the Mill Road area, which a really vibrant, independent sector.

“We now need to look at how we make the most of the space and what we can do in there but it will be a pub with an unfussy, freshly cooked food offer and beers from Cambridge Brewhouse.”

On opening a fourth site in the city, Clark said: “Our intention is always to promote from within and having more sites in the same area makes that much more feasible. We also have greater local knowledge now which really helps with deciding on the offer.”
