Ginger Wine Bar & Delicatessen, owned by Chester Race Company, has closed down, only eight months after the company took it over.

In a statement, Chester Race Company said the business, located on Northgate Street in Chester, would cease trading from the 23 April.

Chief executive, Richard Thomas said: “Industry pressures and a saturated market have had challenging implications for Ginger and despite our best efforts, we have had to make the difficult decision to close.

“Staff members will be deployed into wider Chester Race Company restaurant roles and the business will focus efforts on the existing portfolio of eateries and bars within the group.”

Chester Race Company own four other restaurants in Cheshire: 1539 Restaurant & Bar; The White Horse; Commonhall St. Social and The Yew Tree - which it acquired earlier this month.
