Charles Wells, the Bedford-based brewer and pub operator, has appointed Jason Wills, formerly of Merlin Entertainments and Cineworld, as its new marketing director.

Wills joins the company, which restructured its board last September, after nine months as interim head of marketing at Cineworld. Previous to that he was marketing director at Merlin for over two years and was a senior brand manager at Heineken UK.

He will oversee a team of 25 at Charles Wells and the marketing for its drinks portfolio and retail marketing for its c200 leased/tenanted pubs estate and fledgling managed division.

Last September, the company announced a restructure of its board with Justin Phillimore becoming chief executive.

The company said that after 17 years as chief executive, and latterly chairman, Paul Wells’ role was to be split. He would remain as chairman for Charles Wells Ltd with a focus on new initiatives.

Peter Wells, then managing director of Charles Wells UK pubs, became the commercial director of Charles Wells, with responsibility for all sales and marketing across brewing and retail.
