Pub operator and brewer Charles Wells has added to its estate with the purchase of the The Knife and Cleaver in Houghton Conquest, Bedfordshire. The 17th century pub is currently closed but Charles Wells hopes to find suitable licensees to reopen it in time for the summer. Richard Burt, commercial and property director of Charles Wells, said: “This is a fantastic addition to our estate. It’s previously enjoyed a good reputation in the surrounding area and attracted diners from across the county and we hope that a redevelopment we have planned will help restore it to its rightful position as a dining pub of choice.” The deal is the first acquisition since the pub company completed the purchase of 31 pubs in Summer 2009. Property agent Christie & Co handled the sale.
