Cavendish Bars, the group run by entrepreneur Christian Arden, has acquired the former Bar Risa / Jongleurs site in Oxford from administrator BDO Stoy Hayward. Cavendish plans to convert the ground-floor area to its Wahoo sports bar concept and has entered into a joint venture with Birmingham comedy operator The Glee Club to operate a stand-up comedy franchise on the first floor. The landlord to the venue, which comprises 7,000sq ft and is located on Hythe Bridge Street, is Christ Church College, Oxford. Wahoo and Glee are understood to have signed a new lease with the college. Cavendish, which was formed in 2008 and is backed by Matterhorn Capital, operates Wahoo bars in Oldham, Putney and Southampton. All are former Walkabout venues – Cavendish bought a package of seven Walkabout-branded sites from Regent last June. Regent is now know as Intertain having undergone a pre-pack administration last October. Most of its Walkabout, Bar Risa and Jongleurs venues transferred into the new vehicle but some sites were left with administrator BDO. The Oxford venue will be the third location for Glee. It has clubs in Birmingham and Cardiff. Christie & Co acted on behalf of BDO and Christ Church College.
