Burning Night Group, the Leeds-based operator of bars, has lined up its next opening in Cardiff city centre in August as part of plans to open a further eight venues across the UK in the next three years, M&C Report has learnt.

The self-funded company operates three separate formats in single site locations to encompass Bierkeller – a Bavarian-style beer hall, Shooters Sports Bar – a US-themed sports bar and grill, and Around the World in 80 Beers – beer-focused bars which stock more than 100 global beers.

Isaac Mayne, marketing manager for Burning Night, said the group is looking to expand into major cities spreading out from its head office in Leeds to Scotland, with Glasgow and Aberdeen as potential targets, before working south to London.

He said he anticipates a Scottish site will be secured this year and another added in 2016.

The newest site at Cardiff adjacent to the Millennium Stadium has a capacity of more than 1000 across three levels and will retain separate identities for the three bars because they attract different customers.

Mayne said: “We try to operate them as different venues because they all get very different crowds. If it suited the location we would look at doing separate bars but it works well together.”

“It’s harder to appeal to different markets but three venues appealing to different crowds means we get business all year round,” he said. “I think we’ve done quite well while the industry has struggled because we have three different brands in one building and appeal to different people.”
