Peter Brook, the leased pub industry veteran, is joining Punch Taverns to assist Ian Dyson, chief executive, with the group’s strategic review, M&C Report understands. It is thought that Brook will be joining the leased and managed pub group on an interim basis and will be working on a number of “property-related projects”. Brook will join the group next week. He previously served at the group as strategy director after Punch acquired Inspired Inns & Taverns, a leased pub business owned by Alchemy Partners that Brook ran as chief executive. The appointment follows Brook’s departure from Admiral Taverns in November 2010 after a two year stint with the rival leased pub group, heading its turnaround division. Brook was also previously chief executive at TCG. It is not clear if Brook’s work at Punch will extend to exploring options available to the group in relation to its securitised debt structures. Two debt structures – Punch A and Punch B – could start to act as a cash drain on the group this year. It is widely believed that Dyson is ready to jettison the 5,000-plus leased pubs connected to these two structures if bondholders are not prepared to enter into negotiations that would serve to lower Punch’s debt. Brook will report to Dyson.
