BrewDog, the Scottish brewer and bar operator, has opened its first craft beer bar in England, in London’s Camden. The Bayham Street site is the fourth launched by the brewery, which aims to open bars in Leeds, Manchester and Birmingham in the first half of 2012. It has invested £150,000 on the new site. In what is believed to a worldwide first customers will be able to purchase equity in BrewDog over the bar as part of an extension of the group’s Equity for Punks crowd-funding programme. For £95 people can purchase four shares in the brewery and its bars and receive a lifetime discount in the bars and in the group’s online store. The new site, which has a capacity of around 120, is spread over two levels, with an open industrial-style space on the ground floor and downstairs a beer cellar will offer secluded seating, private vault areas and a wide bottle selection. The menu at the Camden site has been overseen by BBC Masterchef winner Tim Anderson and features gourmet burgers, cheese boards and hot hop pizzas. James Watt, owner, said: “Our manifesto is to inspire everyone to become as passionate about beer as we are, and BrewDog Camden is a landmark moment in the progress of that revolution” BrewDog, which currently operates a further three bars, in Aberdeen, Glasgow and Edinburgh, plans to open a new £7m brewery in Balmacassie, near Aberdeen, in 2012 after raising almost £2m from “fans” via a share issue.
