Steve Letherbarrow, the founder of fledgling West Midlands-based pub company Blackcountryman Ltd, has told M&C Report he is targeting 10 pubs in the area before rolling his brand out nationally.

Letherbarrow is currently opening his second Blackcountryman pub in Cradley Heath High Street, Sandwell. The first of the pubs opened in Brierley Hill, Dudley, in December.

He founded the company with a silent partner and so far they have used their own money to buy the freeholds of the two pubs. However, he said they would be seeking investors as they grow.

He said the concept centres around selling all drinks for no more than £2.50 a pint. The pub will have a range of local ciders and ales and will stock one lager.

He said: “It’s returning to what a pub used to be – good beer at a reasonable price. We have worked with local producers who really like what we are doing.

“We are looking to get to 10 within 18 months and then eventually take it nationwide.

“So far we have done it all through personal finance. We are currently looking for another business partner because obviously as it grows we are going to need support.”
