Black Country Ales, the Gornal-based micro-brewer and pub operator is on the acquisition trail as it looks to add another one or two pubs to its estate this year, M&C Report has learnt.

Angus McMeeking, director of Black Country, told M&C there is funding in place for a couple of new sites this year.

The most recent acquisition, The Swan at Halesowen, near Dudley, that was acquired from Punch in April, closed this week to begin an eight-week refurbishment following years of slow decline.

McMeeking said: “We are looking to turn it into a good old-fashioned, real ale, locals pub with a limited food offering.”

Last week Black Country opened the Midland in Bearwood, near Wolverhampton, on the site of a previous Midland Bank. McMeeking said the pub has received a high level of support from the community.

Black Country has 33 pubs in estate that are supported by its microbrewery.
