Loft, the nightclub owned by Vimac Leisure, has had its Best Bar None (BBN) award withdrawn after the venue was found to be running an all-inclusive drinks deal. The premises, which won awards this year for Overall Winner and Best Nightclub, has been criticised over its Saturday night promotion of “pay £10 and all your drinks are free”. Durham City council said that the national Best Bar None office has decided to strip the club of its awards as Vimac’s “actions were viewed as being fundamentally against the overall objectives of the scheme”. Carol Feenan, manager of the Durham BBN scheme, said: “The promotions that Vimac Leisure is currently running at the Loft have endangered the unity gained amongst our licensees to an extent that they are bringing the reputation of Durham City Best Bar None into question. “This is both an extremely unfortunate and extremely regrettable situation but it is a measure that we have had to make as the promotional material generated by Vimac was something that Best Bar None could not support.”
