Barworks is to open another site in Shoreditch, after taking on the Griffin pub in Leonard Street, MCA understands.

The London-based bar and pub operator is understood to have acquired a controlling stake in the parent company of the currently closed pub.

It was the last pub operated by late-night sector veteran Cymon Eckel, who is thought to be now fully focussed on his restaurant/bar/shared working space concept, Forge & Co.

It strengthens Barworks presence in Shoreditch, where it already operates a Diner and several bars, including the Commercial Tavern, which it bought earlier this year.

The company also operates bars such as the Well & Bucket, Harrild & Sons and Exmouth Arms across London.
