Barworks, the fast expanding bars and diners operator, has opened its sixth restaurant under its The Diner brand in London, and its 14th in total, on the site of the former Otarian restaurant unit in Shaftesbury Avenue. The company, which is run by Anders Akerlund, Patrick Franzen and Mark Francis-Baum, is also understood to be in negotiations on a further site for the its American-style diner brand, as part of plans to grow the chain to up to 10 units over the next couple of years. The privately-owned group also operates sites under the brand, in Camden, Kensal Rise, Islington, Shoreditch and Soho The group opened its latest bar site in the capital last November after taking on the Exmouth Arms in Clerkenwell. Cedar Dean Gilmarc acted on behalf of the landlord in the Shaftesbury Avenue deal.
