Barracuda will open its latest pub, The Goscombe, in Cardiff on 9 March. The company has spent £625,000 redeveloping the site, a former bakery, into a pub. The Goscombe will operate under the Smith & Jones brand, offering up-market food and wine. The opening of the Cardiff pub will bring the total number of Smith & Jones pubs to 66, all of which are named with some connection to the local community. The Goscombe was named by local resident Sue Hutton, who named the pub after Cardiff-born sculptor Sir William Goscombe John. Mark McQuater, Barracuda chief executive, said: "We aim to provide a safe, relaxing and stylish venue for all occasions and we hope the local people will enjoy socialising at The Goscombe. "This is our first opening for 2005 and it continues Barracuda's ambitious expansion programme which will see us open 29 more outlets by the end of the year."
