Barnsley House, the Cotswolds’ hotel and pub operator, has appointed administrators after the business failed to survive the downturn. Administrators KPMG said that it was continuing to trade the company’s three businesses - the 18-room Barnsley House Hotel in Barnsley, the Village Pub located opposite the hotel and the Catherine Wheel Pub in Bibury – whilst it sought to sell the assets. Jane Moriarty, joint administrator and partner at KPMG said: “Although the businesses have been trading well despite the pressure on hotels and pubs in the economic climate, the structure of the company is not sustainable and unfortunately can no longer continue. “We are currently continuing to trade all three parts of the business as normal whilst we market the business and assets for sale. It is anticipated that all deposits for bookings will be honoured by a new purchaser.” Property agent Colliers Robert Barry is handling the sale.
