Amber Taverns has secured its fifth site in south Wales, MCA understands.

James Baer, managing director of the wet-led community pub operator, told MCA the group had provisionally exchanged on the Urban Spoon site in Port Talbot’s Station Road, and was currently applying to have the lapsed licence renewed.

He said the aim was to open the site before the start of the Six Nations rugby.

It follows sites in Swansea, Newport and Pontypool, which have all opened in the last year and a site in Aberdare, which is currently being refurbished.

Baer said the group was ambitious for further growth in the division and was pleased with trading in the area so far.

Last year the group recruited Sally Davis – previously of SA Brain – as a dedicated area manager for south Wales.
