Whitbread is selling four Cafe Rouge restaurants to Ask Central, the pizza group. The price has not been disclosed. The restaurants, in Canterbury, Richmond, Surrey, Newbury, and Knutsford, will be gutted and converted.
The sale is part of Whitbread's plan to dispose of 140 under-performing restaurants, about 10% of its estate. Whitbread is now expected to update its remaining Café Rouges and rename the brand just Rouge after a trial of the new-look concept in Weybridge, Surrey
Whitbread will also add the upmarket Renaissance brand to its portfolio
following a franchise deal with Marriott International.
