Whitbread has appointed Jason Cotta as the new managing director of Costa UK & Ireland, MCA has learnt.

Cotta, who has been international MD for Costa EMEA since last spring and was previously UK managing director for Costa Retail, replaces Jim Slater, who stepped down earlier this year after a year and a half as the coffee brand’s UK managing director

A Costa spokesperson told MCA: “Jason brings a wealth of experience across operations, franchise partners and effective market leadership to his new role.”

Cotta, who has been with Costa since October 2010, will report into incoming Costa managing director Dominic Paul, who will join the company from Royal Caribbean International, next month as replacement for Chris Rogers.

Slater spent eight years at Costa, including stints as marketing director and managing director of Costa Enterprises.

He was previously marketing director of Phones4U and Sunderland AFC.
