Rod McKie, the chief executive of Welcome Break, has become chairman of Tossed, the London-based salad bar concept led by Vincent McKevitt, as it gears up to open four sites in the next two months, M&C Report understands.

McKevitt told M&C Report that the experience garnered by McKie in his previous roles at Pret A Manger and Coffee Republic, where he was operations director and MD respectively would help the 10-strong chain as it entered its next stage of growth.

McKie has been chief executive of Welcome Break since August 2001.

The company plans to open in King William Street, Holborn Viaduct, Clerkenwell, and its second site in Leadenhall.

Earlier this year, the brand secured a £1.5m funding line from Santander as it looks to open at least another eight stores in the coming 12 to 18 months.

The news follows the management buyout of Beringea in April, led by McKevitt and finance director Neil Sebba.

McKevitt told M&C Report in March that the chain is eyeing a 75 to 100 strong estate in the capital. Last month McKevitt said that the chain, which recently pulled out of opening at Trinity Leeds, would be concentrating the majority of its future expansion plans in the south east.
