Wagamama, the Duke Street Capital-led company, has strengthened its property team with two appointments from Sainsbury’s.

The group, which currently operates 124 sites in the UK, has appointed Tom Trenchard as its new head of acquisitions. Trenchard, who replaces Adrian Saunders, spent over seven years at Sainsbury’s including the last two as head of property development.

He is joined at Wagamama, which has openings lined up in Manchester’s St Peter’s Square and the White Rose scheme in Leeds, by Romy Clay as has been appointed as acquisitions manager.

Clay was at Sainsbury’s for over three years, including a stint as property development surveyor.

MCA revealed in January that Saunders was to step down as head of acquisition at Wagamama, after over three and a half years with the business.

At the same time, MCA learnt that Andy Davies has stepped down as Wagamama’s senior acquisitions manager to take up the same role at Bill’s, the Richard Caring-backed group.

Davies had been with Wagamama since April 2014, first as an acquisitions manager.

The company will celebrate the 25th anniversary of its first opening in Bloomsbury, London, this weekend.
