Crispin Tweddell, founder of Piper, has become chairman of the private equity group’s latest investment in the sector, Flat Iron, the Charlie Carroll-led, steak concept.

In March, Piper, the former backer of Loungers, completed a deal to take a significant minority stake in Flat Iron, which is thought to value the ‘single-steak’ dining concept led by at over £20m.

The private equity group made a £10m investment in Flat Iron, which saw early backers exit the business.

Tweddell also currently sits on the boards of Be At One and Turtle Bay.

MCA revealed last month that Jo Fleet, who stepped down from Wahaca earlier this year, after seven years with the Mexican street food brand, was to join Flat Iron, as its new managing director.
