Thunderbird has appointed former Carluccio’s finance controller Will Newman as its new head of finance.

With a background in business restructuring and auditing advisory firm BDO, Newman moved into the hospitality space in 2017, joining Carluccio’s as group financial accountant before being promoted to financial controller in November 2019.

Newman will replace former Thunderbird finance director Mel Holyrod, who left the business last month after three years in the role.

Last week, the Trispan-backed brand announced it had secured a fourth bricks and mortar site, a former Byron unit on 242 Earls Court Road, which will be the first under its revamped brand identity.

Speaking at the time, Thunderbird CEO Paul Gilchrist described the upcoming April opening as “Thunderbird version 2.0, the relaunch,” and said the brand would be looking to create a more evening-friendly proposition going forward.

The business currently operates three dine-in sites in Charing Cross, Paddington and The O2, alongside three dark kitchens in Shoreditch, Battersea and Croydon.
