Coffeesmiths Collective CEO Toby Smith and CFO Bharti Radix have resigned, MCA understands.

According to Companies House, both have stepped down as directors from Coffeesmiths Colective Ltd, and all affiliated companies, including Department of Coffee, Filmore & Union, Small Batch Coffee and Baker and Spice.

Smith, the former CEO of Novus Leisure, and Radix, formerly of Draft House and Petersham Nurseries, both joined the acquisitive speciality coffee shop operator and roaster in April 2019.

A spokesperson for the group said: ”Following a period of rapid expansion and growth the Board of Coffeesmiths Collective Ltd have made the decision to enter a period of consolidation and complete a review of its portfolio.”

Coffeesmiths operates original flagship brand Department of Coffee and Social Affairs, alongside Small Batch Coffee, Bea’s of Bloomsburg, Baker & Spice, TimberYard, and Filmore & Union.

It has also acquired Roasted Rituals, Brew & Bake, Brew Coffee Co, La Bottega Milanese, Spring Expresso, CoffeeWorks Project, Tradewind Expresso and Crazy Fox.

The group, which also has a growing US business, rolls out and acquires specialty coffee shops, with a view to preserving them as “local institutions”, bringing “light touch economies of scale” to enhance the customer experience and increase shareholder value.
