A new recruitment drive for the hospitality and tourism sectors in Scotland has been launched with backing from UKHospitality.

An advertising campaign will promote the range of roles in the sectors and aim to help people find a job to match their skills.

The Scottish Government said the aim was to support businesses to fill staff shortages in the wake of Brexit and encourage 18-30-year-olds play their part in helping firms recover from the pandemic.

Employers are asked to list vacancies on the Careerscope jobs portal which will be made available to the site’s users and those with profiles will be matched to suitable vacancies.

Businesses are encouraged as far as possible to advertise roles as flexible and to offer training where required to encourage more young people to apply.

Leon Thompson, executive director at UKHospitality Scotland, called it “an important and very welcome” campaign.

Many businesses are currently struggling to recruit a full workforce, resulting in closures and scaled back service.

The campaign, with its focus on young people, helps illustrate the variety of the jobs on offer and the “terrific career opportunities” that can be enjoyed by people entering hospitality.
