Bar group Potting Shed has appointed John Creighton, formerly of Walkabout, as managing director, MCA understands.

Creighton was head of operations at former Walkabout operator Intertain and also an area manager at Tiger Tiger.

MCA understands he will also oversee sister concept Firepit, which are backed by pub investment vehicle Downing LLP.

The appointment earlier this year comes after Potting Shed Trading brought in Brian Peers as financial director.

Potting Shed and Firepit was originally developed by Bierkeller operator Burning Night, which has since collapsed in administration, with Downing supporting trading and operations, under Ormsborough Ltd.

Downing parted company with the Burning Night amid concerns over the latter’s financial position and overrunning costs at two major sites, in Leeds and Harrogate.

A Downing-led team took over the venture, with John Leslie, also formerly of Walkabout, coming in as chairman.

Downing partner Steven Kenee, a key figure in the venture, is set to leave in September to join Oakman Inns.

There are currently six Potting Sheds and four Firepits.

Downing also backs Grosvenor Pubs with former Busaba Eathai chief executive Jason Myers; and partnership with Oakman Inns, Apprise Pubs.
