Market Town Taverns, the Heron & Brearley-owned, Yorkshire-based pub and bar operator, has appointed a new managing director, M&C understands.

Al Cross has joined the 15-strong group from Halewood International, where he was marketing controller for Crabbie’s. He had worked for the company since 2007 and was previously head of marketing at Global Brands.

Simon Midgley stepped down as managing director in August to join Ossett Brewery as commercial director.

Midgley had recently been overseeing the development of its PubCraft format, with a focus on local beer, local produce and good service. It has so far been rolled out to three sites.

Market Town Taverns was acquired by Heron & Brearley, the Isle of Man’s biggest hospitality operator, for an undisclosed sum in 2011.
