Hubbox, the South West based better burger brand, has promoted Sameer Shetty to director of operations, MCA has learnt.

Shetty, previously an operations manager at Nando’s, Tragus and the Rick Stein Group, steps up as Hubbox relocates to a larger site in Exeter, expands its original location in St Ives, and prepares to open in Barnstable.

Hubbox has also appointed Grant Nethercott, former head chef of Alba Restaurant in St Ives, as head of food.

The Alex Reilly-chaired group is currently looking at a number of potential sites in Cardiff, Swansea, Bournemouth and Portsmouth, part of a plan to reach 18-20 sites by the end of 2021.

The Provenance Investment Partners-backed business opened its seventh site in Taunton at the end of 2018, with a second site in Plymouth planned.

The Richard Boon-led business is currently working on expanding its St Ives site, which has seen it take on the neighbouring restaurant and reintroduce more of a wet-led offer.

Boon told MCA as the group has grown, the food offer has evolved to include more barbecue open fire cooking, as well as the core menu of burgers.

He said: “When we first started we were 90% wet, and the food was a bit of an afternoon thought, but of course things changed over the years.

“Now having the new space in St Ives means we can bring our bar back, which will be fantastic for us. All the sites for now have a nice big wet offering as well.”

On expansion opportunities, he added: “The big push for us will be along the south coast.

“We are from the seaside so as long as we’re on the water we are happy.”
