Richard Glass has become the latest Mitchells & Butlers (M&B) employee to leave the managed operator to join Tesco, M&C Report has learnt.

Glass, who spent four years as head of openings at M&B, has joined Tesco Family Dining, the umbrella vehicle for Giraffe, Harris & Hoole, Decks and the retailer’s in-store cafes, as head of operations.

He joins Andrew Hallam, Tom Crowley, James Pavey and Sam Wignell, who have all left M&B over the last 18 months to join Tesco’s Family Dining vehicle, which is led by former M&B chief executive Adam Fowle.

Glass spent three years as an area manager at The Restaurant Group and three years as operations manager at Paramount Restaurants.

Last November, Tesco Family Dining acquired 266 in-store cafes for around £9m and is currently refurbishing them.

The company currently operates 13 sites under its Decks format after launching the concept at its Ricoh store in Coventry in summer 2013. Decks caters for consumers from morning to evening and will feature “Deck hosts” manning different food stations similar in style to Toby Carvery.

Last year, it trialled a the format in-store café format that operates under the banner ‘Café – Great Food & Drink’, at its site in Rainham.
