Premium coffee brand Workshop Coffee has appointed David Read as its new chairman.

The supply chain expert, best known as founder and chairman of Prestige Purchasing, joins as Workshop Coffee continues to scale the business in 2024.

Read has more than 50 years’ experience in the food, drink and hospitality industry.

Workshop is an importer, roaster, wholesale supplier, online retailer and coffee shop operator.

The news follows a recent run of B2B new business wins that include The Langham, 1 Hotel Mayfair, Hilton Park Lane, Sofitel St. James and Raffles London.

David Read said: “Having long-admired Workshop Coffee’s ethos and approach, I’m delighted to be working with them as chairman. Their focus on sourcing and roasting coffee of the highest possible quality, and their commitment to establishing ongoing, long-term relationships is best-in class.

“Couple this with their operational flexibility and clear understanding of hospitality as operators themselves, and I see a business that is well-placed to continue reinforcing its position as a supplier of premium coffee experiences”.

Workshop Coffee’s Founder, James Dickson, adds: “I’m thrilled to welcome David as Chairman. His extensive expertise and industry experience across operations and procurement in the F&B and hospitality space is a true asset. It is, I hope, the first of many exciting developments for Workshop Coffee in 2024 and beyond”.

Dixon led a management buyout of Workshop Coffee in August 2023 from its previous parent company, Barkby Group.

In the year ended June 2022, Workshop achieved revenue of £1.5m, a loss before tax of £0.8m and had net liabilities of £7.1m.
