Richard Clark is to step down as managing director of CAU, the casual dining steakhouse concept and sister group to Gaucho, MCA has learnt.

Clark, who joined the 23-strong brand as its operations director from Elysium Group in April 2015 before becoming managing director last September, is to joins Harbour Hotels, the 13-strong boutique hotel operator as its new director of group operations.

A Gaucho spokesperson told MCA: “Tracey Matthews will continue in her role as chief operating officer of both CAU and Gaucho Group, and will oversee all areas of the business previously within Richard Clark’s remit.”

CAU has recently been undergoing a refresh programme, which has seen owner Equistone invest in upgrading a number of its sites, including restaurants in Edinburgh and Blackheath.

The brand, like many others, has pulled back on its expansion plans over the last year.

As revealed by MCA last month, Gaucho, Luke Johnson-chaired group, is to return to Scotland with its eponymous brand, 15 years after closing a site in Glasgow.

The group, which opened its first Gaucho restaurant in seven years in Birmingham earlier this year, is understood to have secured a site at the St Andrew’s Square development in Edinburgh for an opening before the end of the year.
