Renowned Indian chef Vivek Singh has been awarded an honorary degree from the University of Warwick for his contribution to Indian cuisine in the UK.

The executive chef of The Cinnamon Club, Cinnamon Kitchen and Cinnamon Soho was honoured at the university for developing Indian food in this country as well as his entrepreneurialism and charitable contributions.

Singh said: “I am delighted to have been awarded an honorary degree from such a prestigious university. The University of Warwick  and I share many of the same aspirations and goals, as well as a love for the food industry, and I look forward to building a lasting relationship with Professor Thrift and  his talented team.”

Professor Nigel Thrift, vice-chancellor and president of the University said: “As a university, Warwick shares Vivek’s passion for food which can be most clearly seen in our Global Research Priorities Programme for Food, which brings together researchers from all disciplines to explore issues of food production and supply, environmental and social sustainability, social justice, nutrition and public health.”

The university chose to honour Singh as part of 50th anniversary celebrations championing independt thinking and professional achievements.
