The British Hospitality Association (BHA) has welcomed the appointment of Karen Bradley MP as the new Culture Secretary.

Bradley was born in the Moorlands in 1970. She attended her local comprehensive school in Buxton and later studied maths at Imperial College London. Prior to working in politics, Bradley spent 20 years working in business, with roles as an accountant and tax manager for firms including KPMG and Deloitte & Touche.

Ufi Ibrahim, chief executive of the BHA, said: “The swift transition to a new administration under Prime Minister Theresa May is to be welcomed.

“We believe that in times like this, it’s vital for business to have political certainty and we welcome the appointment of Karen Bradley MP as Culture Secretary.

“Hospitality and tourism, like other industries, faces an important future and we look forward to working with her on our current questions around the free movement of visitors and workers, better regulation and the promotion of the UK.

“She’s already shown a keen interest in what we do, attending important industry events, such as the BHA’s first Hospitality and Tourism Lobby Day last year, so we are optimistic.”
