Rooney Anand has stepped down from his role as non-executive chairman of Casual Dining Group as part of its administration process.

Anand joined the group in late 2018, following a 14-year stint as the chief executive of Greene King.

Earlier this month, CDG – which operates Bella Italia, Café Rouge and Las Iguanas – announced it had entered administration as a result of the financial impact of the coronavirus crisis, confirming that 91 of its restaurants were due to close with immediate effect.

It has since been revealed that former TGI Friday’s backer, Epiris, is in advanced talks to buy the business.

Should they acquire CDG, Epiris will be expected to appoint a new chairman for the group.

Epiris had also made an offer for Azzurri, the owner of Ask Italian and Zizzi, but appears to have lost out to Towerbrook Capital Partners, another buyout firm.

Clare Kennedy, Peter Saville, Daniel Imison and Catherine Williamson of Alix Partners are overseeing CDG’s insolvency process.
