Tortilla, the Mexican fast-casual dining concept, is set to take its fifth site – after acquiring a site in Leadenhall Market. When the unit opens in September it will be the chain’s largest site – with 110 covers across 3,380 sq ft, with a further 20 covers outside. The site used to trade as an S&M café, the London-based sausage and mash business, that was put on the market earlier this year. Christie & Co has been handling the disposal of the S&M units. Brandon Stephens, Tortilla’s managing director, said: “We’ve had a great response since opening our first site in 2007 and the response to Californian-Mexican food in London has been overwhelming. “In fact, our Canary Wharf store is probably the busiest burrito joint in the UK, serving 20,000 meals a month. We are confident that Leadenhall will be equally successful.”
