TLC Inns, the multiple operator led by Steve and Jo Haslam, is to covert its new site in Cambridge into its American-style steakhouse format Grand Central, reports the Ely News.

TLC secured the Boathouse in Ely last year. According to the newspaper, c£250,000 is to be spent transforming it into Grand Central Ely.

The format was first added to a site in Basildon, Essex, in 2011.

Steve Haslam told the Ely News: “We’re extremely excited about this and judging by the feedback we’ve received already, so are local people.

“Ely has a fantastic eating out scene now compared to what it had a few years ago when, to be honest, the majority of people went out of the city to dine.

“But the majority of restaurants are pubs or Italian eateries.

“We felt there was a huge gap on the market for an American-style grill which doesn’t just serve your pizzas and pastas but steaks, burgers, ribs and shrimps.”
