West Country pizza and cider brand The Stable will open its sixth site on Cornwall’s famous Fistral Beach next month.
The Stable, Newquay will open on 4 April in a building that previously played host to surf brand Quicksilver’s flagship store.
A number of national chains were competing for the spot, but the building’s owner Nick Briant said he decided The Stable would be the best fit after visiting the brand’s Bristol restaurant.
“As a Cornishman and a lifeguard on the beach here for many years, it was really important to me personally that the lease went to people who would respect the beach’s heritage and bring something fresh and relevant to the experience here,” he said.
As with other Stable branches, the Newquay restaurant will feature pizzas named after local heroes and landmarks, with ingredients sourced from nearby producers.
The Fistral Fire will be topped with local chopped pork, Naga chillies, garlic, red onion, basil leaves, mushrooms, tomato and mozzarella, while the Atlantic Angler comes topped with fresh, locally-caught mackerel and smoked salmon, spinach, parsley and lemon.
Other locally-inspired pizzas include the Cribber featuring Cornish blue cheeses, and the Ruby Red Rustler, featuring Cornwall’s own Ruby Red bacon.
Local ciders will also be included in the restaurant’s extensive cider list, alongside branded bottles and artisan offerings.
Established in Bridport, Dorset, in 2009, The Stable has since opened branches in Weymouth, Bristol, Bath and Poole. The Newquay site will be followed by a restaurant in old customs house in Falmouth, due to open later this year.
Speaking to M&C Report’s sister title Restaurant recently, The Stable founder Nikki Cooper said the brand remains intent in building its portfolio in the West Country, but is also looking eastwards to London and the South East.
“We have agents on finders’ fees looking at affluent London areas including Fulham, Richmond, Islington, Shoreditch and Kingston,” she said.
