The Sustainable Restaurant Association (SRA) has announced it is revamping its annual prize giving as the Food Made Good Awards in response to growing consumer interest in sustainability issues when eating out.

The name has been adopted from Food Made Good, the SRA’s consumer-facing website and resources for consumers who want to research sustainability practices in restaurants.

The awards, now in their fifth year, will be sponsored in 2016 by Nestlé Professional.

They will include a ‘People’s Favourite’, run with the help of the Independent on Sunday. More foodservice businesses are being encouraged to enter, with awards including supplier of the year, and there will be another new category for the university or college showing most commitment to sustainability.

Mark Linehan, managing director of the SRA, said: “Recent years have witnessed a transformation in diners’ attitudes towards food and the People’s Favourite award really captured the imagination of the dining public and unearthed hundreds of restaurants across the country going way beyond simply serving delicious food. We can’t wait to hear about hundreds more restaurants that are not only serving fabulous food but are also the unsung heroes of hospitality and then giving the public the chance to vote for their favourite.”
