New US surf concept Seafood Shack has signed a lease to open in Cardiff in April, MCA has learnt.

The group, led by Terry Rodgers, John Kavanagh, and Daryl Kavanagh, is is due to open at 5 High Street in April, and is also looking to secure sites in Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Edinburgh, London, Manchester and Sheffield, a spokesman said.

The concept is modelled on the surf shacks of Florida and California, and will serve seafood and shellfish dishes in an open theatre kitchen, with 100 wines, plus cocktails and craft beer.

Rogers is a former operations director Carton House hotel and golf resort in Ireland, John Kavanagh is formerly of Ballymaloe restaurant in Ireland, and Darryl Kavanagh is the former owner of Muldoon’s bar, club and restaurant in Wateford, Ireland, which he sold for a reported €10m.

A spokesperson for the group said the concept would be “opulent yet traditional and accessible”, offering a VIP experience.
