Pollo Campero, the Guatemalan quick service chicken chain, is to make its debut in the UK in the first quarter of 2010 with the first site to open in Brighton, M&C Report has learnt. The company said that it was in advanced negotiations with a local quick service sandwich operator to rollout the chicken brand across the South of England, starting with Brighton. The group, which has entered into a joint venture with the Spanish-based Eat Out Group to expand the chain across Spain and Portugal, is looking for similar partners to expand the model across the UK. A spokesperson for the group said that the company was particularly interested in entering the London market. Pollo Campero, which has more than 350 sites in many countries in Latin America, as well as in the US, Spain and Portugal recently launched its first restaurant in the Middle East in Bahrain as part of a franchise agreement with JA Holding and plans to open 36 new outlets in the region over the next 10 years. The company is also in talks to open 50 restaurants in India over the next five years and is interested in Indonesia. In Europe, as part of the agreement with Eat Out, it expects to open 100 restaurants in Spain and Portugal by 2015 and is looking for a local partner to enter Italy.
