Piada, the Italian snack concept, plans to open five to 10 outlets over the next two years in London, after opening its first outlet next to Smithfield’s Market. The company, which is backed by a private investor, was founded and is run by Kate Stewart and Renato Sommella, who both have experience of running restaurants in Italy. The first Piada, which opened last week, has space for 16 covers inside and a further eight outside. It serves freshly made sandwiches using a variety of freshly made Italian breads to be eaten in or taken out. A sandwich cost on average £3.80. Stewart said: “Both myself and Renato have had experience of running restaurants in Italy and wanted to bring that expertise to a smaller concept like Piada but keep high quality product that Italian food is famous for. We have only just opened our first site but we are already on the look out for further opportunities.” Gilmarc Associates, the property agents, handled the deal for Piada.
