Pembroke, the venture capital trust, whose investors include Sir Charles Dunstone, the Carphone Warehouse founder, and the Next chief Lord Wolfson, has taken a stake in Chilango, the burrito bar chain led by Eric Partaker and Dan Houghton, M&C Report understands.

The fund has invested c£450k in the group, taking a 3% stake.

Chilango currently operates six sites across the capital and is understood to have a further three units in the pipeline.

Its last opening was at Leather Lane and all six of its sites are believed to be profitable.

The company, which includes Carluccio’s chief executive Simon Kossoff and Chris Moore, former chief executive of Domino’s Pizza as investors, said last year that is had a further opening  at 24 Brewer Street in development, but has yet to open on the site.

Last year, Pembroke backed the £5m management buyout of La Bottega, the London-based chain of upmarket Italian delicatessens.
