High-profile chef Jamie Oliver has made his first investment in North America, after investing in Maison Publique, a gastropub-style venture being launched in Montreal by former employee, Derek Dammann. Oliver, who hopes to launch his Jamie’s Italian chain into North America over the next 12 months, will be collaborating on the food offer as the new site but will not have his name over the door. Canadian Dammann, who previously worked his way up through the ranks at Oliver's Fifteen restaurant in London, described the new 40-cover venture, which will open in September, as “old-school, British-style tavern”. Earlier this year, Oliver formed a new company, Jamie’s Italian North America, to oversee its launch and growth in the US and Canada.
