William Reed, the leading food and drink publisher, has acquired Martin Information, the specialist business information provider whose titles include M&C Report. In a separate deal William Reed has also bought Centaur’s fortnightly magazine Leisure & Hospitality Business.

Peter Martin, who founded Martin Information in 1997, said: “This is a good move for our company and people. Over the past five years we have been able to establish a strong subscription-based business with corporate clients in the eating-out, drinks and lodging markets. With William Reed, we will have a bigger and firmer platform from which to develop the product portfolio.”

The business is currently based in Croydon but will be moving to William Reed’s offices in Crawley by early November. The existing product team of eight people is being retained, as is founder Peter Martin, who will run the group within the William Reed set-up.

The acquisition of Leisure & Hospitality Business will see editor Melanie Swift join the the Martin Information team within William Reed to relaunch the magazine as Leisure Report, a new subscription-based monthly newsletter,

Martin Information provides daily news and intelligence for senior executives and investors operating in the pub, bar, restaurant and hotel markets in both the UK and Europe. Its products include newsletters, on-line news services, specialist reports and an internet-accessed brands profiling database, MI Profiling. Its two major newsletter and on-line titles are M&C Report, for the pub, bar and restaurant market, and Hotel Report for the wider European hospitality arena. It also has a portfolio of conferences and awards events.

William Reed’s publications portfolio includes sector-leading titles The Grocer and the Morning Advertiser. Charles Reed, William Reed group managing director, said: “These acquisitions strengthen our portfolio within the hospitality and leisure market and give us the basis of a newsletter division, with the opportunity to position new titles across the retail and grocery sector. It is our expectation that we will be able to leverage not only the new business but our existing publications by cross-promoting the two closely together.”
