Muffin Break, the Australian bakery cafe chain owned by Foodco, has told M&C Report it plans to open 15 new stores in the next 12 months.

Wigan, Telford and Thanet are among the locations for the new sites, Foodco marketing manager Gemma Sandells said.

It currently operates more than 50 sites in the UK. It opened its first outlet here in 2001.

The most recent opening in the UK, which began trading last month, was at Hillstreet in Middlesbrough. Other recent openings have been in Leamington Spa, Banbury, Epsom, Andover and Eastbourne.

Muffin Break sells a range of muffins available in over 200 flavours, with high fibre, gluten free and savoury varieties available. The coffee is made from 100% Arabica beans, roasted exclusively for the UK.

The chain has signed up Quality Equipment Distributors (QED), the Glasgow-based designer and supplier of modular bar, coffee shop and food service equipment, for the new outlets that it is opening throughout 2014.

Muffin Break has more than 300 café bakeries worldwide.
