The UK’s first mobile ordering-only food court is set to open this week in Cardiff.

Located on the city’s Castle Street, the 240-cover Castle Quarter Café will open tomorrow (Friday 31 July), offering consumers the opportunity to order from a selection of city-centre eateries.

After scanning an onsite QR code, consumers will be able to order food through the Yoello app or online platform, and it will be delivered by a “courier style system” to their table.

The court will operate as walk-in only, and boxes, drinkware and cutlery will all be provided upon ordering.

Operators already signed up include Wok to Walk, Zerodegrees, Dusty Knuckle and Fab Burgers, and more are expected to join in the coming weeks.

The new outdoor space will open from 10am-10pm seven days a week with last orders at 8.30pm.

The move is part of larger council plans to open more on-street “spill-out spaces” for hospitality businesses, with inside spaces still unable to open until 3 August.

“We wanted to create an attractive space which residents and visitors will love to use and one which can help local hospitality businesses get up and running again,” said Sarah Merry, deputy leader of Cardiff Council.

“We want as many people as possible to enjoy the new space which will give customers a stunning view of our iconic castle in the heart of the city centre. We hope it plays a major part in helping businesses in Cardiff survive the fallout from the pandemic.”
