The management team behind Med Kitchen has acquired a further two of its former restaurants from administrators bringing its new portfolio to four sites. Rupert Hill and Ray Defazio, the former heads of the company Winepage that collapsed into administration in September, have purchased the Med Kitchen outlets on Upper Street in Islington and on St Martins Lane in Covent Garden from administrator Zolfo Cooper. The remaining two outlets, the Med Kitchen in Notting Hill and the Pacific Bar & Grill in Chiswick, which comprised a tied Enterprise lease, were sold to independent operators. Fleurets, which handled the deal, said that the sites had been sold for an average premium of £250,000. Hill and Defazio bought back two of their former outlets, Café Med in St John’s Wood and Med Kitchen in Clerkenwell, at the beginning of December after the group that operated them went into administration. Winepage Ltd, which was placed in administration by principal backer Halifax Bank of Scotland, was formed in 2000 to buy the Cafe Flo business.
