The Mean Fiddler group has won a 4am public entertainment licence for the former ABC cinema in Piccadilly, London after an appeal hearing at Horseferry Road magistrates' court.

Mean Fiddler wants to turn the venue into a cabaret club with restaurant and live music entertainment, but its initial application for a 4am licence was turned down by the notoriously tough-minded Westminster Council, which tries to grant no new licences after 1am.

Vince Power, chairman of Mean Fiddler Music Group, said: "I am delighted with the outcome of the appeal and the decision of the magistrates' court to grant the licence. I'm sure Westminster Council won't be disappointed with the running of the venue."
