Kati Roll Company, the US operator of Indian street food restaurants owned by entrepreneur Payal Saha, is set to open its first branch in the UK. The company, which has two outlets in New York, has acquired the lease on a site in London’s Poland Street for £76,000. The 850sq ft site, which formerly traded as Steff’s Italian, will reopen as a 60-cover restaurant serving food from Calcutta, including its speciality the “Kati”, a meat covered skewer. Saha, who is originally from Calcutta, also owns Babu, a 40-cover Bengali restaurant in Manhattan and had been seeking a presence in London’s Soho for the last few months. Shelley Sandzer handled the sale.
